Dear Friends & Family,
We really do hope you’ll be able to join us to celebrate my 60th B’day in February next year in Cape Town – lots of you have already been in touch about a variety of topics – hence I thought it might be easier if we answered a few of those questions upfront now
What will the weather be like in Cape Town in February? It’s the middle of the South African summer (peak season) so expect the weather to be 20-25°C every day in Cape Town
Where would you recommend that we stay? There are plenty of apartments and villas available to rent unless of course you’d prefer to stay in a hotel. I’d suggest you specifically look to stay in the areas of Camps Bay, Bantry Bay, Sea Point & Mouille Point. They’re closer to the beaches, restaurants and the Waterfront
Would you recommend we rent a car? Yes driving in South Africa is pretty straight forward; i.e. they drive on the same side of the road as the UK but equally you can also catch Ubers everywhere too. If you go with the latter option then I’d suggest you always select ‘Uber black’ which guarantees you a better vehicle!
Which are best airline routes and when should we book our air tickets? I think British Airways, Virgin Atlantic and Norse Airlines are only airlines that fly direct to Cape Town (from London) and sadly their pricing reflects that. Numerous alternatives and more cost effective routes can be found either via Johannesburg, Dubai, Doha, Paris, Frankfurt Amsterdam, Brussels & Istanbul. But given Cape Town has once again been awarded Time Magazine’s no.1 destination in the World to visit, I’d strongly suggest you book your flights sooner rather than later. The flights definitely don’t get any cheaper closer to the time!
Will it be busy in Cape Town at this time of year? February is peak season in Cape Town so you’ll typically need to book restaurants, golf courses, wine tours in advance if you want to frequent the best places
Is it safe in Cape Town these days? Cape Town is no different to any other International City and it’s perfectly safe as long as you don’t do anything stupid
What are the transport arrangements to / from the party? Sadly there’s not going to be any parking available at the house on the night so you’ll need to catch an Uber / taxi to and from the party
Will you be serving food at the party? Yes, there will be plenty of food served throughout the evening so no need to have dinner beforehand. There may even be some chicken served for the vegetarians too! Jokes aside please let the staff know on the night if there are any dietary requirements
Can I bring a few friends, the kids or my dogs with me? That’ll be a firm no! The guest list is closed to anyone other than those named on the invite. If your ‘personal circumstances’ change in the next 12 months feel free to call me.
Lots of love,
Noel & Amy
